Hi! I’m Jon — a social studies educator, researcher, writer, occasional musician, avid reader, and a mediocre jiu-jitsu practitioner. Here, you may find a bit of all of those.
My professional (and often personal) mission is: to create communities of healthy learners. Every word of that is intentional.
“Community,” meaning that all — students, parents, families, educators, support staff, custodial workers,
school counselors, food service workers, transportation service workers, human resource staff, school resource officers, administrators, school board members, school nurses, school psychologists, child study team members, and more — feel that they are an essential part of the learning community. Because they are. Every one of them.
“Healthy,” meaning that of those in the community are have access to mental and physical health resources. I want those in the community to experience only healthy levels of stress, to normalize prioritizing mental health and personal time, to have access to healthy and sustainable foods, to understand the importanceof physical health, and — most importantly — to feel agency, to feel valued, and to feel important. Because they are. Every one of them.
“Learners,” meaning that all of those in the community are open-minded, longing for more information and constant improvement, embrace respectful critique, and are curious about the world. I want all of those in the community to feel that they can grow, that others have something important to teach them, and to feel capable, intelligent, and resourceful Because they are. Every one of them.
I try to embody this mission in everything I do. I hope you will support me in building it.
